in Handling Conflicts
in the Workplace
Now more that ever before managers need
to be aware of the dangers any potential for violence in
the workplace can pose. Spotting and helping employees who
may be under undue stress is not always an easy job for
an employer who is constantly juggling the demands of today’s
business climate. Employer intervention is also a tricky
proposition, especially for small businesses where the atmosphere
is more intimate and where – in many cases –
family or extended family members are involved.
ACT has developed a number of highly effective programs
to assist employers with the challenges of jobsite, conflict
resolution. Here again, both on-site and online options
are available to an employer facing the need to inform employees
of the importance of jobsite conflict resolution.
In those cases where a situation may have escalated to
a crisis point, ACT staff is trained to “talk through”
a situation on a phone consultation and ACT has access to
immediate intervention counseling to help diffuse an escalating
situation. Early action is always the best and a quick and
early referral of any individual dealing with escalating
stress to your EAP will ensure that all that can be done
will be done. If conflicts between personnel are manageable,
employees are, through ACT’s standard program, entitled
to 1-4 supportive visits with a therapist or specialist
in their community.
